Crude oil & condensate and Natural gas strengthened in the third quarter of 2025, rising by 7.9 per cent and 11.8 per cent respectively

Malaysia’s Crude oil & condensate and Natural gas production showed positive growth in the third quarter of 2025, reaching 45.1 million barrels and 737.0 billion cubic feet respectively. The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported today in the release of Mining of Petroleum and Natural gas Statistics, Third Quarter of 2025. The growth was primarily driven by Crude oil production in the third quarter of 2025, which rose by 7.0 per cent (Q2 2025: -2.2%), following four consecutive quarters of contraction. Similarly, the production of Condensate also registered positive growth of 9.7 per cent (Q2 2025: -1.2%), after three consecutive quarters of negative growth. At the same time, production of Natural gas recorded double-digit growth of 11.8 per cent (Q2 2025: -8.0%) following two consecutive quarters of contraction, bringing total production of gas to 737.0 billion cubic feet (Q2 2025: 640.9 billion cubic feet).

The Weighted Average Lifting Price (WALP) for Crude oil and condensate in Malaysia increased to USD71.9 per barrel in the third quarter of 2025 compared to USD70.4 per barrel in the previous quarter. This increase was in line with global benchmark prices, with WTI at USD65.7 per barrel (Q2 2025: USD64.6 per barrel) and Brent at USD69.0 per barrel (Q2 2025: USD68.0 per barrel).

The export value of Crude petroleum and condensate reached RM5.3 billion in the third quarter of 2025. Thailand dominated the export of Crude petroleum and condensate with RM1.8 billion, accounting for 34.6 per cent of the total, followed by Australia (21.5%) and Japan (20.9%). Exports of Refined petroleum products increased to RM23.8 billion from RM22.7 billion in the previous quarter. Singapore was the largest of destination country for petroleum products amounting to RM5.5 billion or 23.0 per cent, followed by Indonesia (22.2%) and Australia (13.9%). Meanwhile, the export value of LNG rose to RM12.2 billion in this quarter compared to RM10.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025, with 37.7 per cent exported to Japan, followed by China (29.6%) and the Republic of Korea (25.6%). 

The value of Crude petroleum and condensate imports recorded RM16.0 billion in the third quarter of 2025 (Q2 2025: RM12.9 billion). The United Arab Emirates was the main country of origin, accounting for 26.5 per cent, followed by Saudi Arabia (22.2%) and Oman (18.4%). Meanwhile, imports of Refined petroleum products rose to RM24.1 billion (Q2 2025: RM22.0 billion), with Singapore continuing to lead as the largest contributor (39.5%), followed by China (14.2%) and the Republic of Korea (9.0%). The LNG imports amounted to RM1.3 billion (Q2 2025: RM1.5 billion), with Australia as the sole country of origin in the third quarter of 2025.
